Philosophers finger

The statue of a philosopher, or holy man, in the Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou, one of the many delights of China, touched for luck so many thousands of times that it shines like gold. The same has happened to Winston Churchill's shoe at the entrance to the House of Commons chamber, bright gold against the dark of the rest of the bronze.
